Menifee, founded in the early 1880’s, is about 50 square miles in southwestern Riverside County, was named after the miner Luther Menifee Wilson. Most of the roads in the city are named after early settlers as well. Early development of Menifee began with Sun City which was developed in 1960’s as an active retirement community by Del Webb. In 1989, the Menifee Lakes master planned residential community was built with many amenities including access to the lake for fishing, trails for walking, playgrounds and more. Menifee continues to be one of the fastest growing communities in California. The city of Menifee was incorporated in 2008 and now has the slogan, “New. Better. Best. “. There are two large retail centers, Menifee Town Center and Countryside Marketplace that have all the conveniences one could ask for with numerous eateries and shopping options. There are 37 parks throughout the city for an outdoor experience. The Menifee Veteran’s Memorial is located at Wheatfield Park where residents can purchase a brick and have a loved one’s name, family name, or business name etched into the Memorial grounds. There are many new home developments building now and plans for more to come. There are single family homes, townhomes, condos within the city along with senior communities.
